Micron Technology was founded in 1978 by Ward Parkinson, Joe Parkinson, Dennis Wilson, and Doug Pitman, and established its own wafer manufacturing plant in 1981.

  In the early 1990s, Micron Technologies established a subsidiary called Micron Computers to manufacture personal computers, which later became Micron Electronics. Micron also acquired Rendition in 1998 to manufacture 3D acceleration chips.

  Micron first established a factory in Xi'an, China on March 21, 2007, mainly producing DRAM and NAND flash memory.
